The Pilbara region is in the midst of a mining boom of a scale never before experienced in Australia. It has excited the nation for the significant challenges for those living, working and operating in the region.
A common thread running through discussion at meetings of government, industry and non-government sectors in the Pilbara, is the crisis situation facing the region due to lack of affordable housing, the flow on effect of lack of employees and inadequate social infrastructure.
Sustainability is the most effective recipe for building long-term positive futures at a local level. Development strategies that build financial, social, human and natural capital, rather than drawing them down, are the key to creating a positive future
An initiative of Pilbara Area Consultative Committee in partnership with Pilbara Development Commission, Riding the Boom is a two day conference dedicated to harnessing this wave, to explore how to build a sustainable and positive future for all businesses and residents in the Pilbara. |
The conference aims to enhance the sustainability of Pilbara communities through provision of:
- relevant data – the facts of the current state of the Pilbara and future growth predictions;
- provision of appropriate training and development in areas of identified need;
- information by Government(s) about their long-term vision for the community; and
- innovative examples of programmes and projects from around the country that have addressed some of the concerns faced by the Pilbara.
